Volunteer Opportunities"On June 16, 2001 we had the privilege to attend a speaker training session at UNYTS. More than 20 people took part in an effort to learn more about promoting organ and tissue donation. To our amazement, half the people there were donor family members. It is easy to understand the motivation of the recipients, but we were humbled to be associated with these very caring donor families. Fresh with the pain of losing a loved one, they can still find it in their hearts to do even more for the transplant community. We can only look up to them for their generosity.
I think that one way we can show our gratitude for all they have done and are doing is to make sure we promote donation each and every day. Let us be thankful we can tell of the benefits of donation and not forget the many that are waiting!"
UNYTS volunteers play a vital role in raising awareness about organ and tissue donation. Opportunities exist for volunteers to help out at health fairs and community events such as handing out brochures at Buffalo Bisons games. Volunteers can also help by replenishing brochure stands at hospitals, providing clerical assistance such as stuffing envelopes, and soliciting speaking engagements. Transplant recipients, donor family members and others who have a personal experience with donation and transplantation are encouraged to join our speaker’s bureau. Every few months UNYTS holds orientation sessions to meet new volunteers, to talk about their areas of interest, and to prepare them to be ambassadors for donation and transplantation. If you would like to join UNYTS as a volunteer or as a member of our speaker’s bureau, please complete the information below. We will send you a confirmation letter. |
