Unyts offers internship and volunteer opportunities for a wide variety of interests that can be both fun and rewarding.  To date, our volunteers have helped with events, coordinated organ, eye and tissue donation and awareness campaigns and sponsored blood drives.

In addition, unique partnerships exist between our volunteers and many area institutions of learning - including elementary and high schools, and colleges and universities.  For example, the Donate Life: Talk It Up! program allows Unyts' volunteers to visit area grammar schools in spreading the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation.  For more information on Donate Life: Talk It Up! click here.

For more information and to sign-up to volunteer, please contact Ryan Daley at 716.566.3928 or rdaley@unyts.org.

Adam Henninger

Adam’s first 12 years were pretty typical.  Anything that you would expect to hear from a preteen is exactly what you would hear from Adam. When he was 12 he and his family discovered that Adam had a silent time bomb inside of him.  After a routine doctor appointment, it was revealed that Adam had one non-functioning Kidney and another that was only working at about 30% and descending quickly.  Adam needed a kidney transplant.

Right in the middle of the October Surprise, Adam’s parents got the saddest and the greatest call all in one.  A man died in a motorcycle accident and he was a perfect match for Adam.  So at 3:00am the family packed their bags, weaved around all the fallen trees and downed power lines and headed to Pittsburgh.  Later that day, Adam had in him a perfectly functioning kidney.

Adam, has not been able to make contact with the donor family.  It would mean a lot for Adam and his parents if this man’s family knew what Adam has become.  Adam would want that family to know that the death of their loved one was not in vain.  This family, by choosing to Donate Life, has singlehandedly turned Adam into a strong, productive, loving, kind young man who now has multiplied this gift of life by helping others in need.

Adam Henninger and his family live in Lancaster NY.  Adam is a senior at Lancaster High School.  He is an honor student, Scholar athlete, a member of the Varsity track team, President of the Donate Life Club, year book committee member, Gold medal winner at the US Transplant Games, and he is on the Ski club.  Adam is looking at Colleges now.  He enjoys math and science and he has set a goal to one day become a dentist.
