Decision For Life Grant

In the fall of 1999 UNYTS, in partnership with the University of Buffalo School of Medicine, embarked on a project to increase organ and tissue donation in communities of color. The two groups received a three-year, $810,000 grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This project involves training African American, Hispanic and Native American community educators, medical students and residents to develop culturally sensitive strategies for approaching and educating the community about donation. The initiative targets a number of settings, including primary care clinics, community centers, and churches. The goal of this project is to provide the education that the community needs in order to make appropriate end of life decisions.
