The Gabbey family recently visited Unyts headquarters to make a donation supporting Unyts’ educational programs. Ron, Roxanne and Molly Gabbey presented a check for $3,300 in support of Unyts' programs. The funds were raised though Ty Ty’s Tourney, a golf outing in memory of Tyler J. Gabbey.

Tyler loved golf, four-wheeling, and hanging out with friends and family. He played baseball and soccer at Akron High School, and later attended Niagara County Community College. Tyler became a cornea and tissue donor upon his death at the age of 18 in 2009. Just six months before the car accident that took his life, Tyler told his family that if anything were to happen to him, he wanted to donate his organs. Since Ty’s death, the Gabbeys have spread the word about the importance of donation, registered new organ and tissue donors, and helped to support Unyts’ work.

The 7th Annual Ty Ty's Tourney took place in Akron on Friday, July 15, 2016. In addition to golfing and dinner, the event included a basket auction, 50/50 raffle and wine pull. In addition to Unyts, the event also benefits the Tyler J. Gabbey Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is awarded to an Akron student who has excelled both in the classroom and on the baseball field.
